    So, it's a plant to treat with caution and it was mad of me, in our last garden, to think that I could ever keep it on a pergola.

    Pruning it every year was a business I dreaded. Vast lengths of new growth lashed about in the wind, thorns caught in my hair and gored bloody tattoos on my face.
